What is EPDM?

Simply put, EPDM, or Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer is a synthetic rubber which has become a staple in a variety of industries, including; automotive, HVAC systems manufacturing, electrical installations, and most importantly for us, outdoor applications as a fantastic roofing solution. 

Although Invented in the 1950s to improve the supply of rubber owing to natural rubber failing to meet demand, EPDM as a synthetic rubber began its life in the 1960s as a roofing membrane. It was quickly discovered that EPDM had a strong resistance to weathering, UV, and was extremely durable; proof of this is still available in the roofing applications from the 1960s which are still performing extraordinarily. 

What is EPDM Rubber?

EPDM Rubber, as explained above, is a synthetic rubber which serves a wide range of applications. These include:

1. As our preferred roofing membrane, with a high resistance to fire, UV, weathering, and boasting a high durability. 

2. Automotive seals and gaskets, with one of the most obvious uses being the rubber seals surrounding car windows.

3. Electrical installations, owing to its high insulative properties.
   

One of the greatest benefits of EPDM rubber is its versatility owing to its extremely high resistance, durability and flexibility across a variety of applications.

What Is An EPDM Roofing System?

Simply put, an EPDM roofing system is the usage of an EPDM membrane as a roofing solution. Combined with a fantastic range of accompanying products, including trims, pipe boots, patch kits etc to ensure a watertight, weatherproofed seal on any flat roof.
